What began as a song of heartbreak transformed into a wider meditation on grief. While finishing the recording of “Contraste”, Sandra’s former therapist and dear friend passed away from cancer, layering the song with another dimension of mourning. The result is a track that begins softly in sadness, then builds into intensity, mirroring the rise from despair to defiance.
With lyrics full of double meanings, Contraste is both literal and poetic—navigating the tension between what was given and what was left behind.
“This song began as my way of processing heartbreak—anger, grief, and the haunting question of whether what we lived really mattered. But while finishing it, I lost a great friend. She was my guide, my therapist and became so much more. That grief merged with the song, giving it a new weight. Contraste is about how we all process pain in a different way, what we lose, what we keep, and the ways we find ourselves again in the space between.”

As with her previous singles, Sandra created the cover art herself—but this time she merged painting with printing, using her own portrait as the foundation. The result is a striking visual metaphor: her monochrome face, split by a stark black line, set against an explosion of painted flowers in vivid color.
The contrast between black and white vs. color, loss vs. rebirth, realism vs. artifice mirrors the emotional terrain of the song. On one side, erasure and grief. On the other, resilience and transformation.
